NCI joined Team D.I.N.O. (Drowning Is Not Optimal) at the 2025 Barnsley Lifeguarding Competition in Burnaby, BC earlier this year. Placing fourth overall, and third in three categories, we ignited stoke and brought over 100 years of expertise to our neighbouring lifeguards in British Columbia.
Our first challenge of the day was a two-minute Individual First Aid challenge which shook us awake and prepped us for the day's insanity. Followed immediately by SERC in which crash dives and multiple victim rescues brought gasps and laughter to fellow-competitors.
The midday relay races challenged our strength and stamina as we splashed and thrashed through the MacPherson Outdoor Pool before wrapping up the afternoon with an exciting Team First Aid Challenge and a mock Olympic Warm-Up Pool Scenario.
The judges and volunteers from the BCYK Lifesaving Society branch were ace, and our fellow competitors were nothing shy of fantastic and displayed model sportsmanship and skill.
A trip well worth the 12 hour drive through the majestic Canadian Rockies.
